About MS. Word

Word Processing

Word Processing, in computer terminology, refers to application program in which we can do typing, editing, adding, inserting and formatting of any kind of document, which could be a letter, bio-data, balance sheet, or something similar.

As the term suggest, word-processing simply processes words, i.e. textual information. You can use it to print letters, reports, and booklets in a suitable layout.

Word Processing is different from conventional typing in many ways. Here, the document is not printed while it is being keyed in. however, its image is displayed on the video display unit. The user, who is typing the document, can verify the correctness of document that is displayed on the computer screen. If the user finds any mistake while typing, he/she can easily correct mistakes. Once the user is sure that there are no mistakes in the document it may be printed.

The current word processors are very powerful. Some of the features available in most word processors are: (Application of Word processor)

Menus
When you begin to explore Word 2007 you will notice that there are three features that you should remember as you work within Word 2007: the Microsoft Office Button, the Quick Access Toolbar, and the Ribbon. These three features contain many of the functions that were in the menu of previous versions of Word. The functions of these three features will be more fully explored below.

The Microsoft Office button performs many of the functions that were located in the File menu of older versions of Word. This button allows you to create a new document, open an existing document, save or save as, print, send (through email or fax), publish or close.

When you click the Microsoft Office button, it will turn orange and a “File like” menu will appear (similar to the image on the right). You’ll notice that you now have little images for choices and that some of them have little arrows pointing to the right.  These arrows indicate that there are additional choices for a selection.

The quick access toolbar is a customizable toolbar that contains commands that you may want to use.  In the upper left corner – to the right of the Microsoft Office Button - you will see an area called the Quick Access Toolbar (image on left).  This area is quite handy as it currently contains several of the most used buttons in Office applications – Save, Undo, Redo, Print and Print Preview. You can customize this toolbar by adding  and removing as many Quick Access button choices as you desire.
